David Fielder was born on June 6, 1971 in Inverness Scotland. He lived in
Gairloch until the age of seven, and his family moved to the USA during
the summer of 1978. Dave's father, a landscape painter, remained in
Scotland. He lived in Meriden New Hampshire and graduated from Kimball
Union Academy in 1990. He attended Keene State College and earned
a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a high school teacher
certificate. After teaching science at Stevens High School for one year,
he started walling full time. He learned the art of drystone walling during several visits to Scotland working under his
father John Fielder, and Dave Goulder (Master Craftsmen, DSWA). He is
strongly influenced by Scottish, English, and Welsh drystone walls and
is very interested in the history of drystone walling in New England and in
Britain. Dave presently holds Initial, Intermediate, Advanced and Master
Certificates with the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain.
Travis Callahan was born September 5th, 1972 in Alliance Ohio.
He has lived the majority of his childhood overseas. His father began his career
doing missionary work with the Disciples of Christ in Zaire, Africa. Patiently
awaiting their sons birth, his parents then moved to Le Chambon sur Lignon, France,
where they began learning French in preparation for their post in Kinshasa, Zaire.
The years following led the family to places abroad including: Pakistan, Mail, Chad, Morocco, Spain, Thailand, The Ivory
Coast, Greece, and finally to Cornish, New Hampshire, where they now reside.
Travis attended Indian Mt. School in the years prior to high school, and
graduated from Kimball Union Academy in 1990. He attended the University of New Hampshire and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in
Studio Art. After working for several years in the graphics and printing industry,
Travis teamed up with Dave, and Fielder and Callahan was born. Travis began
stonewalling in the summers with his father, and with a few helpful pointers from
Dave, took a great deal of interest in the field. Having already been friends
and classmates at Kimball Union, the partnership was a natural success. Travis has traveled to Scotland to further his education and training in dry stone walling, and currently holds his Initial, Intermediate, Advanced, and Master Certificates with the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain. |
